Of course, there are more serious issues that we should consider when researching. Unfortunately, for many of the social problems that are occurring today, it appears that the right side of history has already been written. The problem, however, is that it does not appear that those with the political power or the money to have any desire to change the current system that is allowing social problems to develop.One of the research topics that would include social problems would be those who are high in government and tax paying positions. Too often, there are people who want to appear to be well informed and yet, not enough research was done to establish just how well they would actually serve the United States of America. These people have an agenda and they do not care about the welfare of our nation. Fortunately, we can provide a solution for all of the problems th at social problems have to offer by changing how we pay our government officials.We pay our government officials and members of Congress and they are supposed to help serve us. Yet, it seems that many of the members of Congress have grown so used to receiving salaries and government benefits, that they no longer care to help the people that are using their services. There are many examples of this happening in Washington, D.C. Our elected officials need to be re-educated on the importance of serving us and that includes providing us with the quality of life that we deserve.As far as government officials in Washington, D.C., are concerned, it is time that we provided them with a change. The government officials should not receive checks from taxpayers that are already taxed money. This is especially true with the fact that many of the people that are filing for bankruptcy today are government officials that have also used other people's money for personal use. They need to find a way to stay away from public benefits and to enjoy what the government provides for them.It is also important that we have the government officials stop voting based on loyalty. One of the research topics that we need to look at is why some individuals are never loyal to one person over another. In most cases, it seems that the government officials that are loyal to the state have a clear advantage over others. This is why many people believe that those who would like to see an end to social problems and all those who are entrenched in corruption should stand up and speak out against those who are making the problem worse.As a society, we must make sure that we have leaders that understand the importance of having loyalty in society. Too often, we have seen that too many politicians are only loyal to themselves and they do not take the time to listen to what is being said about them. There are ways for us to make sure that this does not happen and we need to have those who are in posit ions of power know what they should be doing and how to run our country in a way that is right for all of us.Research topics such as these provide for a good conversation topic. There are many solutions that can be implemented, which include eliminating the income tax and giving the government checks based on individual needs. These ideas can be used by those who are in positions of power to lead us in the right direction.Although many of the government officials of today seem to not care about us, that is just a result of too much power being in the hands of those who know how to make things happen. The author of the poem engages with and addresses major themes such as detachment in biomedicine, experience of being in the hospital from the patient’s perspective, the meaning of illness, and the experience of illness for the patient. The narrative can be compared to Arthur Kleinman’s the Illness Narratives, Meri Nana-Ama Danquah’s Willow Weep for Me, Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s â€Å"The Yellow Wall-Paper.† The narrator of the poem begins with stating that â€Å"some kind of shadow was behind her/ she ran towards nowhere/ dark, empty, cold, stuck.† The poem depicts the†¦show more content†¦Moreover, the author portrays the character’s loneliness, feelings, and emotions as a result of her physical and mental distress. In the next stanza, the poet describes â€Å"A figure walking towards cloaked in blue/ Beeping/ Tubes/ Needles.† The poem addresses the routinely and monotonous aspect of being in the hospital for long periods of time. It is a critique of the biomedical model and how the hospital system is created where patients are tended to by multiple doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. The patients and healthcare professionals are unable to form a relationship that consists of what Kleinman describes as â€Å"empathetic witnessing† (Kleinman). Therefore, detachment between patient and health workers is developed and established, to which the patient cannot recognize or know the people assisting them. This problem made life for many black people an ever-continuing struggle. Black people were forced to attend separate schools, churches, hotels, and even restaurants. At the time, white males dominated the work force and many African Americans rarely found well paying jobs. The court system judged people of color more harshly than people of white skin, which led to unfair sentences and lynchings. A lynching is when a person is hanged or executed without a trial; they were very common during this time period. African Americans could only take so much of this, they cried out against the unequal ways that white people practiced. Foundations were formed to aid these people and bring justice to the society they were living in. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) was probably the most significant of these foundations. This was the same organization that Thurgood Marshall became the leading lawyer of. Thurgood Marshall was born in the year of 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was prepped and raised by his mother, Norma Arica Marshall, and his father, William Canfield Marshall. Thurgoods mother was one of the first African Americans to graduate from Colombia University and his father was the first black person to serve on Baltimores grand jury in the 20th century. Their accomplishments influenced young Thurgood in the years yet to come. Thurgood was always top of his game and graduating from an all black high school in Baltimore at 16 and graduating from Howard Law School in Washington D.C. first of his class, proved it. During his time at Howard, Thurgood met and eventually married his first wife, Vivian Burey. After finishing up law school in 1933, Thurgood moved to New York City, where he was later recruited as a staff lawyer to NAACP. During his years spent with the NAACP, Thurgood helped develop a strategy to fight racial segregation throughout the United States. He brought many cases before numerous courts but the cases he brought before the Supreme Court were his greatest achievements. Thurgood won almost all of the cases he argued before the Supreme Court. Through his court victories, he convinced the courts to strike down practices in several states that prevented blacks from voting. Due to Thurgood, the Supreme Court agreed that courts could not enforce private agreements not to sell land to black people. These were major steps forward in the struggle to end segregation but Thurgoods most important victory came in a case dealing with racial segregation in public schools, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. Thurgood managed to persuade the court to unanimously declare segregation in public schools unconstitutional under the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. In addition to the victory of this case, Thurgood fought to win six other Supreme Court cases during the 1950s, leading to the desegregation of public parks, swimming pools, local bus systems and athletic facilities. Even after his retirement as a lawyer for the NAACP, Thurgood continued to fight for the rights of racial minorities, the uneducated and the poor. In 1965, Thurgood was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Lyndon Johnson and later confirmed by the Senate to the role of an associate justice.
